Then, now and later
With everything we do, there's always a beginning, which depends on what was in the past; the start also leads to the next, the future.
These three steps exist in everything you do, like when you read this. You get an impulse to read (past), you are reading (present), and you reach a conclusion (future).
When you wake up in the morning, you do so because you first went to sleep (past), now you wake up (present) to move forward (future).
When you go to bed, you've been awake (past); as you sleep (present), you will wake up (future).
Everything in life is cyclical, from the past through the present to the future.
You cannot change the past, but you can be aware of how the past affects the next time. The present is how you often experience things; it relies on your beliefs. In the present, you can make a choice that shows results for the future.
To get an answer to a question: First, consider whether the question is for yourself or the person you’re reading for. Then consider the timeframe. Now, in a month, or another time. Finally, shuffle the cards, turn some, shuffle, cut the deck once, and place the first card from the top on the left, the next one after, and then the third.
Start with the first card, the one that tells of the past. Is it a card from the Major Arcana? Look at the archetype and clues from the card's action. It also means that the past is significant.
Is it a card from the Minor Arcana? Consider which element.
- Wands – fire-action
- Cups – water – emotions
- Coins – earth – security
- Swords – air – thoughts.
Then the number: 1: A new beginning 2: Balance 3: Impulse 4: Structure 5: Stress 6: Achievement 7: Decision 8: Communication 9: Realization 10: Fulfillment
Based on that, determine the meaning of each card, from the past to the present, and finally, the outcome (future).
If you are in a situation where you can make choices, lay the cards similarly, but after the first three cards for what is, place a stack under three cards for the alternative. Which one will yield the result you're looking for?
You'll find text on each card's page with past, present, and future meanings.
