Ylva and Tarot
Below you will find my background in Tarot, where I am more than just a Tarot expert. Approximately 90,000 hours of interpretations, writing, individual coaching, and courses.
My Tarot career began when I encountered Tarot in 1974 in Nottingham, England, where my friends read Tarot. I curiously drew cards, had them interpreted, feeling both irritated and surprised at how accurate they were. When I returned to Sweden, back to my usual playing cards, it became clear to me that Tarot was the way to go.
My first deck was a Rider Waite, which I still have, although it has an amusing story. When I had my shop "The Crystal Wolf" in Umeå, one of the girls working part-time sold it to a customer as it was the last deck, thinking she could sell the demo copy cheaply. I was upset, but everything happens for a reason. Some years later, when hosting a Tarot course, a participant complained her deck didn’t work—could it be because it was already opened and used when she bought it? It turned out it was my Rider Waite she had. Thankfully, she exchanged it since it didn’t work for her at all.
Back to 1974 (imagine, so many years ago). I laid a few cards but wasn't a good interpreter, doing what most do—laying a few cards, reading the accompanying booklet with no concept of the Tarot’s foundation, simply practicing reading aloud (which unfortunately many do, making it time-consuming and missing the whole system). The years passed, and everything new age followed me. I had children, and that was when my life really began. I had time to do what I wanted, thanks to their father, who gave me the opportunity to stay home. I ended up attending get-togethers with a shaman, and began learning and understanding the entirety, all elements, and the wheel of life. One day, while "playing" with my Tarot deck, I suddenly understood the connection between Tarot and all elements (fire, water, earth, air, and ether). Tarot took on a whole new meaning for me, my interpretations became deeper, more insightful, understanding how work, economy, love, and self build our reality around the soul. Then numerology arrived in my life, surprisingly shocking how well it aligned. I thought the numerologist who interpreted my numeroscope knew me better than I knew myself. I began working with numbers in Tarot, another lift, another truth became larger. Astrology was already in my repertoire; I just had to build upon it.
Tarot surpasses all interpretation methods, encompassing everything, suitable for every religion, every culture, past and present.
Around the late '90s, Tarot became a full-time occupation. I began taking notes on the cards, and in '92, we moved to Umeå. I opened "The Crystal Wolf," and people came in asking about Tarot courses. I knew of none and didn't have any myself—"Nope." "Write down my name, my phone number if you change your mind—I want to participate." Eventually, a course happened and then another and another, continuing on. Initially, my courses were once a week for seven sessions. I traveled to Piteå once a week every Tuesday for two seasons. It’s also in Piteå that I have my reading record for one day: 94 people in a day (24 hours).
The first star readings I laid cost 200 SEK. Soon realizing that to afford all taxes and fees, I had to raise it to 300 SEK. I published "Tarot Step by Step" in 1993, became a guest on Radio and TV, and raised the price to 400 SEK. A few years later, I was up to 500 SEK by 1994.
In 1995, my friend Anna, Janne Püschel, and I founded the Swedish Tarot Association. Our motivation was to create an organization for everyone who loved Tarot. Membership for both practitioners and interpreters, where you as an interpreter would take a test to demonstrate you could interpret Tarot (I took many tests myself to be sure I knew). It was a fun time; we had meetings in Umeå with as many as 44 people at once. We marketed ourselves, had over 200 members across Sweden, then a man came in wanting to take over. I had invested so much time and money that I just gave up. Of course, I heard a lot of nonsense from the new chairman about me being a charlatan. With a twinkle in my eye, I acknowledge the concept of reflections. ;-) I was the chairperson of the association, a driving force along with a few other passionate souls, some of whom stayed and others left. Eventually, I only received a member magazine (unfortunately, because it was good), and then didn’t hear more. Except all those who have contacted me over the years wanting to join.
The criteria we had for authorized Tarot interpreters were that, in addition to passing the test, they should be alcohol- and drug-free (during readings), not predict death, and maintain confidentiality about their clients. I believe about 20 people became authorized. We weren't popular with some "Stockholmers" who felt that we, based in Umeå without their contact network and knowledge, should lay low. A Tarot interpreter ("famous" author) wasn't interested in authorization because he was already authorized in another (completely different area), which was enough. I don't understand what that has to do with his Tarot skills, but apparently, different rules apply to those "big" in the industry than for us mortals. It was decided he would become an honorary member (not my idea or consent). I got upset and irritated (yes, it happens, I get really pissed off) and wanted to become an honorary member too—why should I pay when he was included for free when at least I took the test? What’s the point of authorization (or certification, as it's now known) if there’s an authorized auto dismantler and one that isn’t, then customers have a choice? We all know you get what you pay for. Now I'm carrying out my project not as the Tarot Association but as the Tarot Academy, where only the very best Tarot interpreters are presented—Certified Tarot Masters. They have all taken foundational training and passed a test with me so that I can proudly refer to them and assure their seriousness.
In 2000, I created my first distance course in Tarot through a daily email. Since then, it has evolved as I find the Internet fantastic. Now I have courses with login access, allowing you to take them at your own pace. I offer several different themes, each with webinars open for a year.
In 2002, I realized (hear, read, and be amazed) that I am excellent, a true Tarot expert. I was the first to release a Swedish book that wasn't translated from English, and today, with 27 books written, 16 are on the subject of Tarot. I have substantial compendiums, course materials, and several Tarot workshops and lectures annually, along with daily consultations. That makes me a Tarot expert. Has anyone in all of Scandinavia or even the world produced more regarding Tarot?
Over the years, I've created the Tarot deck "Crystal Wolf" with a booklet, "Erotica Tarot" with a book, and it doesn't stop here. In 2011, I wrote "Tarot, Cards on the Table," which is my absolutely best Tarot book. In 2013, I released my Tarot deck "Prisma Tarot," now sold out; I'm currently working on the next version.
For many years, I’ve had periods where I didn’t want to interpret Tarot at all, but sooner or later, I pick up the deck for others again just because it's so incredibly interesting. But my primary passion is teaching Tarot—it's a fantastic spiritual tool for personal development.
My Tarot interpretations aren’t the classical ones with tall dark men/plump blondes (although that happens) or million-dollar wins (which I've seen a few times) but more often what’s in everyday life, how someone feels, can feel better by releasing patterns, how someone can realize their potential and create a happier life. My view is that it’s no coincidence someone gets a reading—it's perfect synchrony.
You're welcome to reach out if, like me, you sense I can inspire you through a consultation or course. I look forward to connecting with you.
